Dayton at Saint Joseph`s
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — A surging Dayton team looks to rebound from a rare conference loss when it visits a resurgent Saint Joseph’s squad in a key Atlantic 10 matchup Saturday at Hagan Arena.
The Flyers (14-4, 5-1 A-10) saw a five-game win streak snapped Wednesday in a 67-64 loss at La Salle. Prior to that, Dayton had established itself as a conference contender, winning those five games by an average of 11.2 points. Guard Keonte Jones has been a steady force, scoring in double figures in four of the last seven games, including a 14-point effort in the loss to La Salle.
The Hawks (11-8, 3-3) have shown flashes of high-level play, most notably in a 97-90 overtime win over Duquesne and a narrow road victory at Richmond. They are coming off a 79-72 loss at VCU on Monday, despite a career-high 27 points from standout guard Derek Simpson. Simpson has been exceptional lately, averaging 19.3 points, 6.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds over his last six games, including a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double at Richmond.
This game features a contrast in recent trajectories. Dayton, aside from its last outing, has been consistently strong, while Saint Joseph’s has been volatile, mixing impressive wins with lopsided losses, including a 102-79 defeat at Saint Louis.
Defensive intensity will be critical. Dayton’s defense, which held Loyola Chicago to 51 points last week, will be tested by Simpson’s dynamic playmaking. The Hawks, who allowed 90 points in regulation to Duquesne, must contain a balanced Flyer attack that saw Javon Bennett log 40 minutes and Jaiun Simon add nine points and two blocks in the La Salle game.
Hagan Arena provides a notable home-court advantage for Saint Joseph’s, where it is 8-2 this season. Dayton is 3-3 in true road games. A win would keep the Flyers near the top of the conference standings, while the Hawks aim to climb back to .500 in A-10 play and secure a signature victory.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Philadelphia.
