Central Arkansas Routs West Georgia in ASUN Matchup

CARROLLTON, Ga. (Interstat) — The Central Arkansas Bears used a dominant defensive performance and a balanced scoring attack to secure a convincing 86-65 road victory over the West Georgia Wolves in an ASUN Conference men’s basketball game Thursday night at The Coliseum.

The most important part of the game was Central Arkansas’s relentless pressure, which created a decisive disparity in points off turnovers. The Bears forced 19 West Georgia turnovers, converting them into 27 points, while the Wolves managed only six points off Central Arkansas’s mistakes. This 21-point swing formed the core of the Bears’ wire-to-wire control, as they never trailed and built a lead that grew to as many as 23 points in the second half.

Central Arkansas, which evened its season record at 10-10, set the tone early. The Bears opened the game with a 9-0 run, highlighted by a dunk from Malchiah Marable off an assist from Camren Hunter. West Georgia, which fell to 9-10, struggled to find offensive rhythm against the Bears’ active defense, committing five turnovers in the first seven minutes. Despite a team-high 19 points from Shelton Williams-Dryden for the Wolves, Central Arkansas maintained a comfortable 43-34 lead at halftime.

The Bears’ offensive execution was efficient and shared. Ty Robinson, a 6-foot-4 guard from Hot Springs, Arkansas, led all scorers with 22 points, including three 3-pointers. Forward Cole McCormick, a 6-foot-6 Chattanooga, Tennessee native, provided a significant spark off the bench with 15 points, while Camren Hunter orchestrated the offense with 12 points and six assists. Luke Moore also added 13 points and six assists, and 6-foot-10 center Truman Byrne chipped in 12 points.

West Georgia’s offense, which shot just 38% from the floor, was hampered by Central Arkansas’s interior presence. The Bears outscored the Wolves 42-30 in the paint and blocked five shots. JaVar Daniel was a bright spot defensively for West Georgia, recording six blocks, but the Wolves could not consistently string together stops. Brady Hardewig added 12 points for the home team.

Central Arkansas put the game out of reach with a 12-2 surge early in the second half. The run was fueled by its defensive identity, featuring a steal and layup by Hunter and a 3-pointer from Moore, pushing the lead to 57-40 with 16:14 remaining. West Georgia never cut the deficit below 14 points the rest of the way.

The Bears also held advantages in fast-break points, 16-6, underscoring their ability to capitalize on West Georgia’s errors. The announced attendance was 1,274.

The victory marked Central Arkansas’s third win in its last four conference games. The Bears travel to face North Alabama on Saturday. West Georgia, which has lost three of its last four, will host Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday.

According to Interstat’s ELO system, West Georgia had been projected with a 59.1% probability to win, but Central Arkansas covered the pregame spread as a 4.5-point favorite. The total score of 151 fell under the over/under line of 153.
