Cleveland State at Wright State
FAIRBORN, Ohio (Interstat) — A surging Wright State looks to continue its climb in the Horizon League standings when it hosts struggling Cleveland State on Wednesday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
The Raiders (12-7, 6-2 Horizon) have won six consecutive games, their latest a 93-83 victory over Youngstown State on Jan. 15. Guard TJ Burch has been instrumental in the streak, averaging 17.3 points and 4.7 assists over the last six contests. He scored 24 points and dished seven assists against the Penguins.
Wright State’s offense has been potent during the run, scoring 84 or more points in four of the six wins. They will face a Cleveland State defense that has allowed an average of 86.2 points in its last five games.
The Vikings (6-14, 2-6) snapped a four-game skid with an 80-78 home win over Youngstown State on Saturday. They are just 1-9 in true road games this season. Cleveland State will lean on guard Dayan Nessah, who is coming off a career-high 26 points in 39 minutes in the win. Over his last five games, Nessah has averaged 17.2 points.
Wright State won both meetings last season, including a 78-70 victory in Fairborn. The Raiders currently sit in a tie for second place in the league, while the Vikings are near the bottom of the standings.
The matchup features a stark contrast in recent trajectories. Wright State has found a consistent rhythm, particularly on offense, while Cleveland State has struggled for stability outside of its recent narrow win. The Raiders’ ability to share the ball — they tallied 20 assists as a team last outing — will test a Vikings defense seeking road resilience.
Wednesday’s game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will play again in Cleveland on Feb. 15.
