Georgetown Seeks to Snap Skid Against Villanova

BRYN MAWR, Pa. (Interstat) — The struggling Georgetown Hoyas face a steep challenge Wednesday night when they visit the Villanova Wildcats in a Big East Conference men’s basketball matchup at The Pavilion.

Georgetown (9-9, 0-5 Big East) arrives mired in a five-game losing streak, including four consecutive conference defeats. Their most recent outing was a heartbreaking 64-62 home loss to then-Connecticut on Saturday. The Hoyas have shown fight, however, taking both UConn and Creighton to the wire in narrow defeats.

Villanova (14-4, 3-2), ranked eighth in the latest AP Top 25, looks to rebound after an 86-79 home loss to Saint John’s snapped a two-game win streak. The Wildcats had previously secured key road victories at Providence and Marquette.

A key matchup will feature Georgetown’s Vincent Iwuchukwu against Villanova’s high-scoring backcourt. Iwuchukwu, a dominant force inside, is coming off a 12-point, 14-rebound performance against UConn and has averaged a double-double over his last two games. Villanova will counter with guard Tyler Perkins, who poured in 23 points in the loss to Saint John’s and has been a consistent offensive catalyst, scoring in double figures in six of his last seven contests.

The Wildcats have dominated the recent series, winning the last nine meetings. Georgetown’s last victory over Villanova came in February 2021.

For the Hoyas, ending their conference skid will require containing Villanova’s perimeter attack and finding consistent scoring beyond Iwuchukwu. KJ Lewis and Jeremiah Williams, who combined for 22 points against UConn, will be critical. Villanova aims to leverage its home court advantage and defensive intensity to avoid a second straight home loss and maintain its position atop the Big East standings.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EST. The game will be televised on FS1.
