Rutgers at Wisconsin
Preview: Rutgers at Wisconsin in Big Ten Showdown
MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) — Two Big Ten teams on contrasting trajectories will meet Saturday when the Wisconsin Badgers host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin (12-5, 3-1 Big Ten) enters riding a three-game winning streak, including impressive road victories at Michigan and Minnesota. The Badgers have found their rhythm offensively, averaging 83 points during the streak.
The Badgers are led by guard John Blackwell, who is averaging 21.5 points over his last four games. He scored 27 points and dished five assists in Tuesday’s 78-75 win at Minnesota. His backcourt partnership with Braeden Carrington, who added 21 points against the Golden Gophers, provides a potent scoring threat.
Rutgers (9-8, 2-2) arrives after an emotional 77-75 overtime victory over Northwestern last Sunday, which snapped a two-game skid. The Scarlet Knights have struggled for consistency, alternating wins and losses in their last six contests.
The visiting Scarlet Knights will lean heavily on dynamic guard Tariq Francis. He erupted for 30 points in the win over Northwestern and has scored 30 or more points three times in the last month, including a 34-point performance against Penn. When Francis scores efficiently, Rutgers is competitive; in the team’s nine wins, he averages 24.2 points.
This matchup pits Wisconsin’s surging offense against a Rutgers team that has shown resilience but allows 76.6 points per game in losses. The Badgers have been strong at home with a 7-2 record at the Kohl Center this season. Rutgers is 1-4 in true road games, with its lone win coming at Seton Hall in December.
Historically, Wisconsin has dominated the series, winning 13 of the last 15 meetings. The teams last met in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament, a 70-61 victory for the Badgers.
A key battle will be in the backcourt between Blackwell and Francis. If Wisconsin can contain Francis and exploit its home-court advantage, it will aim to extend its winning streak. Rutgers will need another high-output game from its star and improved road defense to pull an upset and level its conference record.
Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in Madison.
