BOSTON UNIVERSITY SEEKS ROAD WIN AT LOYOLA MARYLAND IN PATRIOT LEAGUE MATCHUP

BALTIMORE (Interstat) — Two men’s basketball teams looking to gain traction in the Patriot League will meet Saturday when Boston University visits Loyola Maryland at Reitz Arena.

The Terriers (7-11) enter following a heartbreaking 93-91 overtime loss to Lehigh on Wednesday. Boston University showed offensive firepower in that defeat, with Ben Defty scoring 26 points and Michael McNair adding 24. Chance Gladden dished out 12 assists.

Defty, a key player for the Terriers, is averaging 17.1 points over his last seven games. He posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds in a narrow 64-62 loss to American on Jan. 3.

The Greyhounds (5-13) are also coming off a loss, falling 86-80 to Colgate on Wednesday. Freshman guard Sebastien Emenalo provided a bright spot in that contest, coming off the bench to score a season-high 19 points in just 18 minutes. His recent play, including a 10-point effort in a Jan. 7 overtime win at Army, has made him a player to watch for Loyola.

Both teams have struggled for consistency this season. Boston University has lost three of its last four, though the losses to Lehigh and American were by a combined four points. Loyola Maryland has dropped five of its last six, with the lone win in that stretch being the overtime victory at Army.

Historically, the Terriers have had the upper hand, winning the last five meetings between the programs. They will look to continue that streak behind Defty and McNair, while aiming to improve a defense that allowed 93 points in its last outing.

The Greyhounds will counter by seeking more production from Emenalo and Braeden Speed, who scored 20 against Colgate. Protecting home court will be a priority for a Loyola team that is 4-4 at Reitz Arena this season.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
