Mercer at UNC Greensboro
GREENSBORO, N.C. (Interstat) — A surging Mercer squad aims to continue its climb in the Southern Conference standings when it visits struggling UNC Greensboro in a men’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Saturday at Greensboro Coliseum.
The Bears (11-7, 3-2 SoCon) have won three straight games, most recently a 77-67 road victory at Virginia Military Institute on Thursday. Mercer’s offense has been potent during the streak, averaging 95.7 points per game.
Forward Armani Mighty has been a central figure in Mercer’s recent success. Over his last three games, the standout is averaging 17.7 points and 5.3 rebounds while providing a major defensive presence. He scored 18 points and blocked three shots in the win over VMI.
The Spartans (6-11, 2-3) look to halt a two-game skid after a disappointing 86-60 loss at East Tennessee State last Saturday. UNC Greensboro has struggled defensively, allowing an average of 90 points in its last three conference games.
Guard KJ Younger provides a consistent scoring threat for the Spartans. He has reached double figures in five consecutive games, including a 24-point performance in a win over Chattanooga on Jan. 1. His production will be vital against Mercer’s high-powered attack.
This contest pits Mercer’s efficient offense against a UNC Greensboro team searching for defensive answers. The Bears won both meetings last season. The Spartans will need a strong home-court advantage at the Coliseum to counter Mercer’s momentum and improve their sub-.500 record.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
