UTEP at Florida International
Preview: UTEP Miners at Florida International Golden Panthers
WESTCHESTER, Fla. (Interstat) — Conference USA play resumes Sunday when the Florida International Golden Panthers host the struggling UTEP Miners at Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Golden Panthers (8-5) enter the matchup with momentum, coming off an 89-74 home victory over New Mexico State on Friday. Forward Eric Dibami posted a double-double in that win with 16 points and 10 rebounds, part of a strong recent stretch. Over his last five games, the junior is averaging 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds, providing a consistent interior presence.
Florida International’s offense has been potent, scoring 86 points or more in four of its last five contests. Corey Stephenson led the way with 21 points against New Mexico State.
Conversely, UTEP (4-8) looks to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 75-63 loss at Louisiana Tech on Dec. 29. The Miners have found wins scarce, with only one victory in their last seven outings.
Guard Kaseem Watson has been a bright spot for UTEP, averaging 12.4 points over his last five games. He scored a team-high 16 points in the loss to Louisiana Tech. The Miners will need a more robust defensive effort, as they have allowed 75 points or more in five of their eight losses this season.
The matchup pits Florida International’s high-scoring attack against a UTEP team seeking stability. The Golden Panthers have been strong at home, boasting a 7-2 record in Westchester. UTEP is 1-5 in true road games.
This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again in El Paso on Jan. 22.
Tip-off is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026.
