Preview: Davidson Wildcats at Saint Joseph’s Hawks
PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — Two Atlantic 10 men’s basketball teams looking to steady themselves after recent stumbles will meet Saturday when the Davidson Wildcats visit the Saint Joseph’s Hawks at Hagan Arena.
Both teams enter the Jan. 3 contest seeking momentum at the start of the conference calendar. Davidson (8-5) has lost three straight, including a draining 89-83 double-overtime defeat to Duquesne on Tuesday. Saint Joseph’s (8-6) is coming off a 102-79 road loss to Saint Louis on Wednesday.
The matchup features two of the league’s top offensive talents. Davidson will lean on guard Sam Brown, who is coming off a 23-point, four-assist performance in 36 minutes against Duquesne. Brown has been a consistent scorer, reaching double figures in four of his last six games.
He will be countered by Saint Joseph’s standout Jaiden Glover. The Hawks’ guard is averaging 20.4 points over his last five games, including a 29-point outing in a win over Arcadia on Dec. 28 and 23 points in the loss to Saint Louis.
Davidson’s recent skid includes losses to Duquesne, Kansas and Temple after a 6-2 start. The Wildcats’ offense, which averages 73.2 points per game, will need to solve a Saint Joseph’s defense that has held opponents to 65 points or fewer in four of its eight wins.
Saint Joseph’s has shown resilience at home, with a 5-1 record at Hagan Arena this season. Their only home loss was a non-conference setback to Coastal Carolina. The Hawks have relied on a balanced attack behind Glover, with Dasear Haskins and Anthony Finkley providing key support.
History and records will be set aside as both teams aim for a critical early conference victory. Davidson will look to break its losing streak by finding answers on the road, while Saint Joseph’s hopes to defend its home court and build a winning streak.
Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Philadelphia.
