Chattanooga at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum before the holiday break will meet Wednesday when the Chattanooga Mocs visit the Bellarmine Knights in nonconference men’s basketball.

The game at Knights Hall pits programs with similar early-season struggles. Chattanooga (5-6) arrives after a 78-92 loss at Auburn on Saturday. Bellarmine (4-6) looks to rebound from a narrow 76-80 home defeat to Northern Kentucky the same day.

A key matchup will feature two of the nation’s more productive scorers. Chattanooga guard Jordan Frison enters on a hot streak, averaging 20.3 points over his last three games. He scored 20 points with six assists in the loss at Auburn. For Bellarmine, forward Jack Karasinski has been a consistent force, scoring 21 or more points in three of his last four outings. He posted 21 points and eight rebounds against Northern Kentucky.

Both teams have faced challenging early schedules. The Mocs’ six losses have come against high-major opponents like Auburn and UNLV or strong mid-majors like Saint Mary’s. Their five wins, however, have largely come against lower-division or struggling programs. Bellarmine’s path has been similar, with losses to power-conference foes Notre Dame, Kansas State and Georgia, but also close calls against Northern Kentucky and a road win at Houston Christian.

Defensive consistency will be a concern. Chattanooga allows an average of 77.5 points in its losses. Bellarmine has conceded 80 or more points in four of its six defeats.

Wednesday’s contest is the final tune-up for both before difficult road tests. Chattanooga visits Alabama A&M on Sunday, while Bellarmine faces a daunting trip to Kentucky next Tuesday.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
