Tulsa Overpowers Arkansas-Pine Bluff in High-Scoring Affair

TULSA, Okla. (Interstat) — The Tulsa Golden Hurricane unleashed a relentless offensive onslaught Wednesday night, overwhelming the visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions 117-84 in a non-conference men’s basketball game at the Donald Reynolds Center.

Tulsa improved to 9-1, continuing its strong start to the season, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff fell to 1-10, still seeking its first win against a Division I opponent this year.

The game’s trajectory was established early and never wavered. Tulsa’s offensive efficiency was staggering from the opening tip, building a 51-36 halftime lead before exploding for 66 points in the second half. The Golden Hurricane shot a blistering percentage from the field, consistently finding high-percentage shots and capitalizing on 19 Arkansas-Pine Bluff turnovers.

The most important part of the game was Tulsa’s immediate and sustained offensive pressure, which negated any chance of an Arkansas-Pine Bluff upset from the opening minutes. After a brief 2-2 tie, Tulsa seized control with a 13-3 run, fueled by early three-pointers from Ade Popoola and a driving layup from Tylen Riley. The Golden Lions struggled to match Tulsa’s pace and shot-making, and despite a valiant 30-point effort from Jaquan Scott, they never cut the deficit to single digits after the opening five minutes. Tulsa’s lead ballooned to 33 points in the second half as their deep roster showcased its firepower.

Jaylen Lawal led a balanced Tulsa attack with 20 points and four assists in just 18 minutes off the bench, epitomizing the team’s depth. Miles Barnstable added 17 points, while Romad Dean and Tylen Riley each chipped in 14. In total, seven Golden Hurricane players scored in double figures, with David Green and Myles Rigsby contributing 11 points apiece.

For Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Scott, a 6-foot-8 forward from Dallas, was a bright spot, scoring his 30 points efficiently. Milhan Charles added 18 points, and Quion Williams facilitated the offense with eight assists to go with eight points. The Golden Lions showed improved offensive output in the second half, scoring 48 points, but could not slow the Tulsa juggernaut.

Tulsa dominated the interior, outscoring Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the paint and converting Golden Lion turnovers into easy transition baskets. The Golden Hurricane also shared the ball effectively, finishing with a significant advantage in assists.

The announced attendance was 2,742.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff will look to rebound when it returns home to face Ecclesia on Monday. Tulsa, riding a wave of momentum, heads to Frisco, Texas, for a neutral-site game against New Mexico State on Saturday.
