Duke Routs Howard in Lopsided Home Victory
DURHAM, N.C. (Interstat) — In a display of overwhelming offensive efficiency and defensive prowess, the Duke Blue Devils remained undefeated Sunday, dismantling the Howard Bison 93-56 in a non-conference men’s basketball game at a sold-out Cameron Indoor Stadium.
A crowd of 9,314 watched as the Blue Devils improved to 7-0 on the young season, while Howard fell to 3-4.
The game was effectively decided in the first half, as Duke unleashed a blistering offensive performance. The Blue Devils shot a remarkable 61 percent from the field in the opening period, racing out to a 52-18 halftime lead. The Bison, by contrast, struggled to find any offensive rhythm, connecting on just six of their 26 first-half field goal attempts.
Duke’s dominance was rooted in its control of the paint, where it outscored Howard 58-14. The Blue Devils also capitalized on their transition opportunities, outscoring the Bison 22-1 in fastbreak points.
Sophomore forward Cameron Boozer led all scorers with 26 points and added 12 rebounds in just 26 minutes of action. His performance set the tone for a Duke offense that operated with surgical precision. Center Patrick Ngongba provided a powerful interior presence, scoring 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting and recording two blocks.
Howard guard Bryce Harris finished as his team’s leading scorer with 15 points, while forward Travelle Bryson added 13. The Bison shot just 30.4 percent from the field for the game.
The second half saw Duke ease off the throttle, scoring 41 points to Howard’s 38, but the outcome was never in doubt. The Blue Devils’ offensive rating of 126.6 points per 100 possessions starkly contrasted with Howard’s mark of 77.8, highlighting the vast efficiency gap between the two teams on this night.
Duke’s ball movement was crisp, with six different players recording assists, led by Cayden Boozer’s six. The Blue Devils also shared the scoring load, as Isaiah Evans contributed 11 points and Darren Harris added eight.
The victory extends Duke’s strong start to the season, which includes notable wins over Kansas and Texas. Howard, coming off a win against Niagara, will look to regroup before its next contest.
Duke next travels to Chicago to face Arkansas on Thursday. Howard returns home to host Saint Mary’s on Wednesday.
