Louisville at Miami (Fla.)
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Interstat) — A pivotal Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season finale is set for Saturday when the Miami Hurricanes host the Louisville Cardinals at Watsco Center.
Miami (24-6, 14-5 ACC) enters the contest riding a four-game winning streak and can clinch a top-four seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a victory. The Hurricanes are coming off a 77-69 road win at SMU on Wednesday, led by guard Tre Donaldson’s 17 points and nine assists.
Donaldson has been instrumental during Miami’s surge, averaging 18.6 points and 5.6 assists over his last five games. His backcourt play will be critical against a Louisville team seeking a signature road win to bolster its NCAA tournament resume.
Louisville (21-9, 12-7) arrives having won five of its last seven, including a 77-62 home victory over Syracuse on Tuesday. The Cardinals are led by forward J’Vonne Hadley, who scored 19 points in that win and is averaging 15.0 points on 54% shooting from the field over the last month.
However, the Cardinals have struggled away from home against top-tier competition, with recent road losses at Clemson, North Carolina and SMU. Their defense, which allowed 95 points in that loss to the Mustangs, will be tested by a potent Miami offense averaging 78.2 points per game.
The matchup features a contrast in styles. Miami’s efficient, guard-oriented attack, ranked 22nd nationally in offensive efficiency, will challenge a Louisville team that relies on physicality and offensive rebounding. Containing Donaldson’s penetration and facilitating will be Louisville’s primary defensive focus.
Historically, Miami holds a narrow 24-21 advantage in the series and has won the last three meetings. The Hurricanes won 80-71 at Louisville on Jan. 11 earlier this season.
Saturday’s result will finalize seeding for both teams heading into the ACC Tournament next week in Charlotte, North Carolina. For Louisville, a win would represent a crucial Quadrant 1 victory. For Miami, it’s an opportunity to solidify a double-bye and build momentum for March. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
