Pittsburgh at Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball teams looking to halt late-season slides will meet Saturday when the Syracuse Orange host the Pittsburgh Panthers at the Carrier Dome.

Pittsburgh (10-19) enters on a five-game losing streak, including a heartbreaking 75-74 home loss to Florida State on Wednesday. The Panthers’ last win was a 73-68 victory over Notre Dame on Feb. 21.

Syracuse (14-15) has lost four of its last five, most recently a 77-62 defeat at Louisville on Tuesday. The Orange’s lone victory in that stretch was a 79-78 win over SMU on Feb. 14.

The Panthers will lean on guard Barry Dunning, who is coming off a career-high 26-point performance against Florida State. Over his last three games, Dunning is averaging 21.7 points. Syracuse will counter with guard Naithan George, who has been a consistent playmaker. He recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists in a loss to Wake Forest on Feb. 28 and scored 16 points in the loss to Louisville.

In the teams’ first meeting this season, Syracuse defeated Pittsburgh 83-72 on Jan. 10 in Pittsburgh.

Both teams have struggled defensively. Pittsburgh has allowed 75 or more points in six of its last seven games. Syracuse has conceded an average of 84.5 points during its four losses in the last five contests.

A key matchup will be on the perimeter, where Dunning’s scoring punch for Pittsburgh clashes with George’s distribution for Syracuse. The Panthers will need to find secondary scoring behind Dunning, while the Orange will look to establish an inside presence to complement their guard play.

The game could have implications for seeding in the upcoming ACC Tournament, with both teams seeking momentum heading into the postseason. Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
