Stanford at North Carolina State
Preview: Stanford Cardinal at North Carolina State Wolfpack
RALEIGH, N.C. (Interstat) — Two teams on the NCAA tournament bubble with identical records will meet in a critical late-season nonconference showdown Saturday when the Stanford Cardinal visit the North Carolina State Wolfpack at Lenovo Center.
The matchup, organized by the Atlantic Coast Conference, pits Stanford (19-11) against N.C. State (19-11) with both squads seeking a résumé-boosting victory ahead of Selection Sunday.
Stanford arrives riding a three-game winning streak, including an 86-78 road victory at Notre Dame on Wednesday. The Cardinal are powered by the hot hand of guard Ebuka Okorie, who is averaging 26.4 points over his last seven games. He dropped 40 points in a win over Georgia Tech on Feb. 7 and scored 34 against Pittsburgh on Feb. 25. In the win at Notre Dame, Okorie had 24 points and seven assists, while Jeremy Dent-Smith added 21 points off the bench.
The Wolfpack, meanwhile, look to halt a three-game skid following a 93-64 home loss to Duke on Monday. N.C. State’s recent struggles include a 29-point road loss to Virginia and an overtime defeat at Notre Dame. Guard Darrion Williams, who led the team with 17 points against Duke, will be a key factor. The Wolfpack’s last win was a dominant 82-58 victory over North Carolina on Feb. 17.
Both teams have shown volatility. Stanford has impressive wins but also owns road losses to California, Wake Forest and Miami. N.C. State’s season includes a 41-point loss at Louisville but also a road win at then-SMU.
The game will feature a contrast in momentum, with Stanford’s high-scoring backcourt facing an N.C. State team desperate to defend its home court and solidify its ranking. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. EST Saturday in Raleigh.
