Maryland at Wisconsin

Preview: Maryland Terrapins at No. -- Wisconsin Badgers

MADISON, Wis. (Interstat) — The Wisconsin Badgers, riding high after a dominant road victory, will look to solidify their postseason credentials when they host the struggling Maryland Terrapins in a Big Ten men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.

Wisconsin (20-9) enters the contest following a 90-73 rout at Washington on Feb. 28, a game in which guard Braeden Carrington erupted for a career-high 32 points. The Badgers have won three of their last four, with their only loss in that stretch coming on the road against Oregon. Their high-powered offense, which has scored at least 90 points in three of its last six games, will face a Maryland defense that has allowed an average of 74.4 points in its last five outings.

Conversely, Maryland (10-18) seeks to halt a late-season slide, having lost four of its last five games. The Terrapins are coming off a 69-65 home loss to Rutgers on Sunday. Their season has been marked by offensive inconsistency, failing to reach 70 points in eight of their last 11 contests.

The spotlight will be on a clash of standout performers. For Wisconsin, Carrington has emerged as a dynamic scoring threat, averaging 18.3 points over his last three games. His backcourt mate, Nick Boyd, is also in strong form, coming off a 22-point, 5-assist performance against Washington.

Maryland will lean heavily on forward Solomon Washington, who has been a consistent bright spot. Washington is averaging a double-double over his last seven games (11.6 points, 10.1 rebounds) and is coming off a 15-point, 4-block effort against Rutgers. His ability to control the glass and protect the rim will be critical against Wisconsin’s balanced attack.

The Badgers won the season’s first meeting, 82-62, in College Park on Feb. 5. Wisconsin holds a significant advantage in the standings and will be heavily favored at home, where they are 12-3 this season. Maryland, just 2-9 in true road games, faces a daunting challenge in one of the conference’s most hostile environments.

Wednesday’s game tips off at 8 p.m. CST and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. Wisconsin will then travel to face Purdue on Saturday, while Maryland’s regular season concludes.
