Loyola Chicago at Saint Louis

ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — A surging Saint Louis team with national aspirations will host a struggling Loyola Chicago squad in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball matchup on Wednesday night at Chaifetz Arena.

The Billikens (26-3, 13-3 A-10), ranked in the latest AP Top 25, are riding high after a 91-76 victory over Duquesne on Saturday. They have won 10 of their last 12 and are in contention for a high seed in the NCAA tournament. Saint Louis boasts one of the nation’s most efficient offenses, led by versatile forward Robbie Avila. Avila is coming off a 23-point, 7-assist performance and averages 17.2 points and 5.1 assists in his last six games.

They will face a Loyola Chicago team (7-22, 3-13) that is looking to build on a rare bright spot. The Ramblers snapped a four-game skid with a 69-66 home win over Richmond on Feb. 28, thanks largely to a season-high 19 points from sophomore forward Miles Rubin. Rubin has been a consistent contributor, averaging 12.7 points over his last six contests.

However, the recent head-to-head history heavily favors the Billikens. Just three weeks ago, on Feb. 13, Saint Louis dominated Loyola Chicago 86-59 in Chicago. Avila orchestrated the win with six assists, while the Billikens’ defense stifled the Ramblers’ attack.

For Loyola to have a chance, Rubin will need another standout performance, and the Ramblers must find a way to slow Saint Louis’s multifaceted offense, which features additional weapons like Quentin Jones (17 points vs. Duquesne) and Paul Otieno. The Billikens have lost only once at home this season.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Wednesday. Saint Louis will look to solidify its postseason resume, while Loyola Chicago aims to play spoiler and capture its first road conference win of the season.
