California at Georgia Tech

ATLANTA (Interstat) — A surging California team looks to solidify its postseason resume while Georgia Tech seeks to salvage a difficult season when the Golden Bears visit the Yellow Jackets in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Hank McCamish Pavilion.

California (20-8) enters on a strong run, having won three of its last four games, including a 73-69 victory over SMU last Wednesday. The Golden Bears’ success has been fueled by guard Justin Pippen, who is coming off a 24-point, five-assist performance against the Mustangs. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a 90-85 California win in Berkeley on Feb. 4, Pippen contributed 13 points and six assists.

Georgia Tech (11-18) has lost seven consecutive games since that defeat, most recently an 80-71 home loss to Florida State. Guard Jaeden Mustaf has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 14.6 points over the losing streak and posting 16 points and eight assists against the Seminoles. He scored 14 points in the earlier loss to California.

The Golden Bears have shown resilience on the road in conference play, with notable wins at Boston College and Miami this season. Their balanced attack, which also features Chris Bell (20 points vs. SMU) and John Camden, will test a Georgia Tech defense that has allowed 83.4 points per game during its skid.

For the Yellow Jackets, stopping Pippen and improving defensive cohesion will be critical to snapping the streak. Mustaf and Kowacie Reeves, who had 17 points against Florida State, will need significant offensive output to keep pace.

Wednesday’s contest is the final regular-season home game for Georgia Tech. California continues its road trip at Wake Forest on Saturday, while Georgia Tech visits Clemson.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
