Southeastern Louisiana at New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (Interstat) — Southland Conference rivals will meet for the second time this season when the New Orleans Privateers host the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Monday night at Kiefer Lakefront Arena.
The Privateers (15-16, 8-8 Southland) look to secure a winning season and improve their conference tournament seeding, while the Lions (8-22, 5-11) aim to close a difficult campaign on a positive note. New Orleans won the first meeting 79-76 in Hammond on Jan. 12.
New Orleans enters having lost a close 66-63 decision to McNeese State on Saturday. Kedrick Osby led the Privateers with 16 points in that loss. The guard has been a key contributor, scoring in double figures in two of his last four appearances.
Southeastern Louisiana seeks to end a five-game skid, most recently falling 68-60 at Nicholls State. The Lions have struggled offensively during the streak, failing to reach 70 points in four of those losses.
A player to watch for the Lions is Jeremy Elyzee, who has been a consistent presence. Over his last eight games, the guard is averaging 9.4 points, including a 15-point performance against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 23. He logged 29 minutes and blocked three shots in the loss to Nicholls.
For New Orleans, balance has been a strength. In their Feb. 23 win at Stephen F. Austin, five Privateers scored in double figures. They will look to exploit a Southeastern Louisiana defense that has allowed an average of 77.2 points during its current losing streak.
The game tips off at 7:30 p.m. CST and will be the regular-season finale for both teams before the Southland Conference Tournament.
