Maine at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two of the America East’s most productive guards will be in the spotlight when the Binghamton Bearcats host the Maine Black Bears in a conference men’s basketball matchup on Saturday.

The game at the Binghamton University Events Center pits teams at the bottom of the league standings, both seeking momentum ahead of the conference tournament. Maine (8-20) arrives with a slight edge, having won two straight, including a 70-59 road victory at Albany on Thursday. Binghamton (7-23) snapped a five-game skid with a 65-63 home win over New Hampshire that same night.

The backcourt duel features Maine’s Ace Flagg and Binghamton’s Jeremiah Quigley, both coming off stellar performances. Flagg scored 22 points in 35 minutes against Albany, continuing a run of strong play that included 15 points in a win at New Hampshire. Quigley, the engine of the Bearcats’ offense, logged 40 minutes and finished with 17 points and six assists in the win over the Wildcats. He has played every minute in six of his last seven games, averaging 16.1 points and 6.7 assists per contest in that span.

History favors the visiting Black Bears, who handled Binghamton 79-63 in Orono just over a month ago on Jan. 24. In that game, Maine’s defense forced 16 Bearcat turnovers.

Both teams have struggled with consistency this season but have shown recent flashes. Maine’s two-game win streak is its longest in conference play, while Binghamton’s victory on Thursday showcased its ability to close a tight game.

The matchup will likely hinge on which supporting cast can provide a lift. For Maine, Logan Carey, who had seven points and six assists against Albany, will need to facilitate alongside Flagg. Binghamton will look for scoring from Jackson Benigni and rim protection from Zyier Beverly, who blocked three shots last time out.

Saturday’s contest is the regular-season finale for both squads before they head to the America East tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
