Gardner-Webb at Radford

FAIRLAWN, Va. (Interstat) — A struggling Gardner-Webb squad seeks to snap a lengthy skid when it visits Radford in a Big South Conference men’s basketball matchup Thursday night at the D.N. Dedmon Center.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs (3-25, 1-12 Big South) enter on a six-game losing streak, most recently falling 75-66 at Charleston Southern on Tuesday. Their only conference win this season came against South Carolina Upstate on Jan. 23. Gardner-Webb’s offense has sputtered, failing to reach 70 points in 10 of its last 11 games.

Guard Jacob Hudson has been a bright spot during the difficult stretch. He leads the team and is coming off a 15-point, 3-assist performance against Charleston Southern. In his last five games, Hudson is averaging 15 points, though his scoring has been inconsistent.

Radford (14-13, 7-6) looks to build momentum after a 90-80 home victory over Charleston Southern on Feb. 14. The Highlanders have been strong at home this season, posting a 9-4 record in Fairlawn. They are led by versatile forward Dennis Parker, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Charleston Southern. Parker has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games, averaging 17.1 points over that span.

The Highlanders won the first meeting this season, 89-80, at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 14. Radford’s balance was key, with five players scoring in double figures.

For Gardner-Webb to pull an upset, it must find consistent scoring beyond Hudson and improve a defense allowing 82.2 points per game in conference play. Radford will aim to exploit its interior advantage and protect the ball against a Gardner-Webb team forcing nearly 13 turnovers per game in Big South action.

The game tips off at 7 p.m. EST. Radford visits UNC Asheville on Saturday, while Gardner-Webb hosts UNC Asheville on Feb. 26.
