Saint Louis Billikens Dominate Loyola Chicago Ramblers in Conference Matchup

CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Saint Louis Billikens, one of the nation’s elite teams, delivered a methodical and dominant road performance Friday night, overwhelming the Loyola Chicago Ramblers 86-59 in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball game at Joseph Gentile Center.

From the opening tip, the contrast between the conference front-runner and a struggling opponent was stark. Saint Louis, now 24-1 overall, imposed its will on both ends of the floor, building a double-digit lead in the first half and never allowing the Ramblers, who fell to 6-20, to mount a serious challenge. The Billikens led 39-29 at halftime and then outscored Loyola Chicago 47-30 after the break, turning the game into a rout.

The most decisive and telling stretch of the game occurred late in the first half, effectively extinguishing any hope of a home upset. After Loyola Chicago’s Daniil Glazkov hit a three-pointer to pull the Ramblers within 23-20 with just over four minutes remaining, Saint Louis closed the period on a blistering 16-3 run. The surge was fueled by defensive pressure and balanced scoring. Ishan Sharma and Trey Green connected from beyond the arc, Kellen Thames finished inside, and Quentin Jones capped the half with a three-pointer just before the buzzer. That sequence transformed a manageable three-point contest into a commanding 39-26 Saint Louis advantage at intermission, a deficit from which Loyola Chicago could not recover.

Saint Louis showcased its depth and offensive versatility throughout the night. Sharma, a guard from Milton, Canada, led a balanced attack with 14 points and five assists in just 20 minutes of action. Guards Quentin Jones of Chicago and Trey Green of Charlotte each added 12 points, with Jones contributing three assists and two blocks. Amari McCottry of Milwaukee provided 11 points and five assists, while Kellen Thames of St. Louis and Paul Otieno of Nairobi, Kenya, combined for 15 points off the bench.

The Billikens dominated key statistical categories, underscoring their comprehensive performance. They outscored Loyola Chicago 38-14 in the paint, 18-9 on fast breaks, and scored 18 points off Ramblers turnovers. Their defense was consistently disruptive, blocking seven shots and recording eight steals.

Loyola Chicago was led by Justin Moore of Philadelphia, who scored 12 points. Glazkov, from Krasnodar, Russia, added 11 points. The Ramblers struggled to find consistent offense, shooting poorly from the field and failing to capitalize on their limited opportunities. Miles Rubin of Chicago had six points and four assists.

The announced attendance was 4,557. Saint Louis, which entered the game as an 18.5-point favorite, covered the spread with ease. The combined score of 145 points fell under the posted over/under line of 154.

The victory extends Saint Louis’s remarkable season, with their only loss coming against Stanford in late November. They continue their pursuit of an Atlantic 10 regular-season title and a high seed in the NCAA tournament. Their next game is Tuesday at Rhode Island. Loyola Chicago, mired in a difficult season, looks to regroup Wednesday at Fordham. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in St. Louis on March 4.
