FARMVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — In a critical Big South Conference clash that saw momentum swing wildly and execution prove decisive, the UNC Asheville Bulldogs outlasted the Longwood Lancers 79-74 on Thursday night at a packed Willet Hall.

The game’s most pivotal sequence unfolded not with a single shot, but through a stark disparity in ball security and offensive flow. Each time, Longwood answered, often through Billups or Tucker. A Thompson 3-pointer with 12:29 remaining gave the Lancers a 53-50 lead, their first since early in the period, prompting a Bulldogs timeout.
The game turned decisively in the final five minutes. With Longwood clinging to a 66-63 lead after a Billups 3-pointer, the Bulldogs locked down. Following another empty Longwood trip, Taylor hit a floating jumper to put Asheville up 72-66 with 3:10 to play.
Longwood refused to capitulate. Billups sank another 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 74-71 with just over two minutes left. After a Wright layup and free throw extended the lead to six, Thompson answered with a clutch 3-pointer of his own, making it 77-74 with 11 seconds remaining.
The final act belonged to Wright at the charity stripe. Fouled immediately on the inbounds, he calmly sank both free throws with 10.6 seconds left to seal the five-point victory. Longwood’s last-gasp 3-point attempt was off the mark.

The win moves UNC Asheville into a more favorable position in the Big South hunt, while Longwood must regroup quickly. Both teams return to action on Saturday, with the Bulldogs hosting Presbyterian and the Lancers welcoming South Carolina Upstate.
