Lamar at Stephen F. Austin

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Stephen F. Austin looks to continue its dominant season and complete a regular-season sweep when it hosts a Lamar team seeking revenge on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at William R. Johnson Coliseum.

The Lumberjacks (20-3), one of the nation’s winningest teams, have won eight straight games since their last loss on Jan. 5. Their most recent victory was a 67-60 defensive battle against McNeese State on Monday, led by 21 points from guard Keon Thompson.

Thompson has been a consistent force, averaging 19.5 points over his last eight contests. He torched Lamar for 26 points, six rebounds and five assists in the teams’ first meeting just two weeks ago, a key performance in an 88-81 road win for Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 24.

The Lamar Cardinals (12-11), however, arrive with momentum of their own, having snapped a two-game skid with a convincing 73-54 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Monday. Their offense runs through high-scoring guard Rob Lee, who erupted for 28 points in that victory. Lee is averaging 24.6 points over his last seven games, including a 31-point outburst against Houston Christian on Jan. 12.

In the Jan. 24 loss to the Lumberjacks, Lee contributed 19 points and six rebounds, but Lamar’s defense could not contain Thompson and the Stephen F. Austin attack. The Cardinals will need a more complete defensive effort to slow a Lumberjacks squad that averages 76.5 points per game and has lost only once at home this season.

The matchup pits one of the Southland Conference’s top offenses in Stephen F. Austin against a Lamar team that has shown it can score in bunches behind Lee but has struggled with consistency. The Lumberjacks’ depth and home-court advantage make them formidable, but the Cardinals’ potent scorer ensures they are a threat to pull the upset on any given night.

Saturday’s contest is a crucial conference game for both teams as they navigate the final month of the regular season. For Stephen F. Austin, it’s a chance to solidify its place atop the standings. For Lamar, it’s an opportunity to notch a signature win and prove it can compete with the league’s best.
