AVALON, Miss. (Interstat) — Jayme Mitchell scored 39 points to power Jackson State to a 97-81 men’s basketball victory over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday at LeFlore County Civic Center. The Tigers, who led 45-38 at halftime, pulled away in the second half of the SWAC contest. Mitchell shot 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. The Delta Devils were led by Michael James with 32 points and Daniel Mayfield with 30. Jackson State improved to 7-16 overall, while Mississippi Valley State fell to 1-22. The Tigers capitalized on 18 offensive rebounds and a 29-for-35 performance from the foul line.
