Sam Houston at Louisiana Tech
RUSTON, La. (Interstat) — A surging Sam Houston squad looks to continue its climb in the Conference USA standings when it visits a Louisiana Tech team seeking redemption on Saturday.
The Bearkats (16-7, 8-2 CUSA) enter Thomas Assembly Center riding a seven-game winning streak, the conference’s longest active run. Their most recent victory was a 70-66 home win over UTEP on Wednesday. The Bulldogs (12-10, 4-6), meanwhile, aim to halt a two-game skid after falling 72-63 to New Mexico State that same night.
This matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 31 meeting in Huntsville, where Sam Houston dominated in an 83-67 win. The Bearkats have not lost since Jan. 10.
A key storyline will be the backcourt duel between Sam Houston’s Po’Boigh King and Louisiana Tech’s Scooter Williams. King has been instrumental during the win streak, averaging 17.6 points over his last five games, including a 27-point outburst against Western Kentucky on Jan. 24. He scored 15 in the first meeting with Tech.
Williams has emerged as the Bulldogs’ primary offensive threat, scoring in double figures in four of his last five games. He poured in a career-high 28 points against Kennesaw State on Jan. 23 and followed with 22 in the loss to New Mexico State. He led Tech with 17 points in the loss at Sam Houston last week.
Sam Houston’s success has been built on defensive pressure and balanced scoring, with Damon Nicholas and Kashie Natt providing consistent support for King. Louisiana Tech will need more production beyond Williams and better ball security after the Bearkats forced 15 turnovers in the prior meeting.
The Bulldogs hold a 9-3 record at home this season and will rely on that home-court advantage to split the season series. A win for Sam Houston would solidify its position near the top of the conference, while a Louisiana Tech victory would provide a crucial resume boost and stop the Bearkats’ momentum.
Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the Thomas Assembly Center.
