William & Mary at Hampton

Preview: William & Mary at Hampton in Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball

HAMPTON, Va. (Interstat) — A pair of Virginia programs trending in opposite directions will meet Saturday when the William & Mary Tribe visits the Hampton Pirates in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup at the Convocation Center.

William & Mary (14-8 overall) arrives with a winning record but seeks to halt a two-game skid after high-scoring losses to Elon and Campbell. The Tribe fell 104-96 to Campbell last Saturday despite 18 points from standout guard Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi. The team has shown offensive potency, averaging 84.2 points over its last five games, but defense has been a concern in the losses.

Hampton (10-13) has struggled more profoundly, dropping four of its last five contests. The Pirates are coming off a particularly difficult offensive performance, a 50-82 road loss to Towson where they shot just 30.4% from the field. Their recent games have been defined by defensive struggles, allowing an average of 74.2 points over the same five-game stretch.

A key matchup will feature William & Mary’s Vahlberg Fasasi against Hampton’s Xzavier Long. Vahlberg Fasasi has been a consistent scoring threat, including a 19-point, 5-assist effort in a win over North Carolina A&T on Jan. 15. Long provides a interior presence for the Pirates, nearly averaging a double-double in recent outings with 8 points and 11 rebounds against Towson.

The game represents a critical opportunity for both teams to build momentum for the final stretch of conference play. William & Mary will look to leverage its superior scoring attack and bounce back on the road. Hampton aims to rediscover its defensive identity and protect its home court, where it earned a narrow 65-63 win over Monmouth on Jan. 22.

Following this contest, William & Mary travels to face Northeastern on Feb. 12. Hampton’s next game is a neutral-site contest against North Carolina A&T in Inglewood, California, on Feb. 13.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, in Hampton.
