Binghamton at NJIT
NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) — A surging NJIT looks to continue its climb in the America East standings when it hosts a struggling Binghamton team on Saturday at Fleisher Athletic Center.
The Highlanders (11-12) have won three of their last four conference games, most notably a 79-77 road victory at Vermont on Jan. 31. They sit in the middle of the league table, while the Bearcats (5-19) are mired near the bottom, having lost 10 of their last 11.
NJIT won the first meeting this season, 73-65, at Binghamton on Jan. 3.
The Highlanders are led by guard David Bolden, who is coming off a strong all-around performance in the win over Vermont with 16 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Over his last four games, Bolden is averaging 14.8 points and 4.5 assists, providing steady backcourt leadership for a team finding its rhythm in February.
Binghamton will counter with the dynamic play of guard Jeremiah Quigley, who has been a bright spot during a difficult season. Quigley is averaging 15.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 6.1 assists over his last seven contests. He posted a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double in a loss to Maryland-Baltimore County on Thursday, but the Bearcats have consistently struggled to find consistent scoring support around him.
NJIT’s recent success has been built on balanced offense and timely defense. In their last two wins, over Albany and Vermont, four Highlanders scored in double figures in each game, with Sebastian Robinson and Ari Fulton providing key complementary scoring to Bolden.
Binghamton, meanwhile, has been plagued by offensive droughts and has allowed 78 or more points in four of its last five losses. The Bearcats’ only win since Dec. 29 was a 63-60 home victory over Bryant on Jan. 29, a game in which Quigley scored 21 points.
The matchup pits NJIT’s momentum against a Binghamton team desperate to stop its skid. A win would bolster the Highlanders’ position ahead of a tough stretch that includes games against Albany and Vermont. For the Bearcats, it represents a chance to play spoiler and build confidence before hosting Vermont next week.
Tip-off is set for Saturday afternoon in Newark.
