Georgia Southern at Louisiana-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (Interstat) — A struggling Louisiana-Lafayette squad looks to halt a three-game skid when it hosts a Georgia Southern team seeking to regain its footing in Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday at the Cajundome.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (5-16, 2-6 Sun Belt) have lost eight of their last ten, most recently a 72-58 defeat at Appalachian State on Jan. 22. Their offense has frequently sputtered, failing to reach 70 points in seven of their last eight contests. Guard Dorian Finister has been a bright spot, averaging 16.2 points over his last five games, including a 25-point performance in a loss to Troy on Jan. 10.

They face a Georgia Southern Eagles (13-9, 4-5) team that has also hit a rough patch, losing three straight after a four-game winning streak in early January. The Eagles are coming off a hard-fought 83-78 home loss to Troy on Jan. 24, where they got 19 points from Alden Applewhite and 17 from Tavarus Webb.

Webb has been the Eagles’ consistent catalyst, scoring in double figures in six consecutive games. Over that stretch, the guard is averaging 15.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. His versatility will be key against a Louisiana-Lafayette defense allowing 76.3 points per game.

The matchup pits one of the Sun Belt’s more potent offenses in Georgia Southern (78.1 ppg) against one of its most generous defenses. The Cajuns rank near the bottom of the conference in scoring defense and field goal percentage defense. However, they have shown an ability to defend their home court, with both of their conference wins coming in Lafayette.

Georgia Southern won both meetings last season, including a 78-69 victory in Lafayette. For the Cajuns to reverse that trend, they will need to find consistent scoring beyond Finister and contain a Georgia Southern attack that features four players averaging double figures.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
