Hampton at Towson

Preview: Hampton Looks to Sweep Towson in Colonial Athletic Association Rematch

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — A narrow defeat from just one month ago will be fresh in the minds of the Towson Tigers when they host the Hampton Pirates in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball matchup Saturday at SECU Arena.

The Pirates (10-12, 3-6 CAA) edged the Tigers 63-62 in Hampton on Dec. 31, providing the backdrop for a quick-turnaround rematch with both teams seeking consistency in the league standings.

Towson (12-11, 4-5) returns home after a 73-82 loss to UNC Wilmington on Thursday. The Tigers have alternated wins and losses over their last six games. Sophomore guard Tyler Tejada has been a bright spot, averaging 15.3 points over his last eight contests. He scored 16 points in the loss to UNCW and poured in 22 points in a road loss to North Carolina A&T on Jan. 24.

Hampton arrives after a low-scoring 51-58 defeat at Drexel on Thursday, its second straight loss. The Pirates have struggled offensively of late, failing to reach 70 points in five of their last six games. Guard Xzavier Long, who scored 13 points at Drexel, will be a key figure. He averages 9.4 points per game and is coming off a 9-rebound, 3-assist performance against UNCW on Jan. 24.

The Tigers hold a slight edge in the overall season record, but their conference mark has them just a half-game ahead of Hampton in the CAA table. Towson will aim to leverage its home court, where it is 8-4 this season, to avenge the December heartbreaker.

For Hampton, replicating its defensive effort from the first meeting, where it held Towson to 35.7% shooting, will be critical. The Pirates have shown an ability to win close games, with four of their last five victories coming by 5 points or fewer.

Saturday’s result could provide pivotal momentum as both teams navigate the second half of the conference schedule.

The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. EST tip-off on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026.
