Boston University at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking momentum in the back half of Patriot League play will meet Saturday when the Boston University Terriers visit the Bucknell Bison at Sojka Pavilion.

Boston University (8-14, 4-5 Patriot) enters on a two-game skid, including a 58-50 home loss to Navy on Wednesday. The Terriers have shown a pattern of competitive play, with four of their five conference losses coming by four points or fewer or in overtime.

Bucknell (6-16, 3-6) has also struggled to close games, dropping its last four contests. The Bison fell 81-79 at Lafayette on Wednesday, a game in which they surrendered a late lead.

The matchup will feature a contrast in strengths. Boston University is led by forward Ben Defty, who has been a consistent force. Over his last five games, Defty is averaging 18.4 points and 5.6 rebounds, including a 26-point performance against Lehigh and a 19-point, 4-block effort against Navy. His interior presence will challenge a Bucknell defense that allows 75.2 points per game.

The Bison counter with guard Jayden Williams, the team’s primary facilitator. Williams is coming off a 13-point, 3-assist outing at Lafayette and has dished out 5.3 assists per game over his last six contests. His ability to orchestrate the offense against a Terrier defense that allows 73.6 points will be crucial.

Both teams have shown an ability to win in conference play but have been plagued by inconsistency. Boston University won the first meeting this season, 83-67 at Lafayette on Jan. 7, though that game did not involve Bucknell. The Terriers hold a narrow edge in the standings, making this a key game for seeding ahead of the Patriot League tournament next month.

Historically, Sojka Pavilion has been a tough venue for visitors, but the Bison are just 4-6 at home this season. Boston University is 2-8 in true road games.

Following this contest, Boston University travels to face Holy Cross on Monday. Bucknell’s next game is at American on Wednesday.
