Fordham Looks to Build Momentum Against George Washington in A-10 Clash

WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two Atlantic 10 teams on opposite trajectories meet Saturday when the George Washington Revolutionaries host the Fordham Rams at the Charles E. Smith Center.

George Washington (13-8) aims to rebound from a narrow road loss, while Fordham (11-10) seeks to string together consecutive conference wins for the first time this month.

The Revolutionaries fell 79-76 at Saint Louis on Tuesday despite 15 points from guard Christian Jones. Jones has been a consistent force, averaging 12.9 points and 4.4 assists over his last seven games. His playmaking will be central against a Fordham defense that has struggled at times during a 2-6 stretch over its past eight games.

Fordham snapped a three-game skid with a 64-58 home victory over La Salle on Wednesday. The Rams were led by Akira Jacobs’ 13 points. Jacobs, a key player to watch, has shown scoring flashes but has been inconsistent, tallying single-digit points in four of his last eight outings. His production alongside backcourt mate DeJour Reaves, who had 11 points and four assists against La Salle, will be critical for the visiting Rams.

The matchup pits Fordham’s recent defensive effort, which held La Salle to 58 points, against a potent George Washington offense that has scored 85 or more points in three of its last five home games, including a 101-point outburst against Loyola Chicago on Jan. 10.

Historically, the venue has favored the Revolutionaries. Fordham has not won at the Smith Center since the 2016-17 season, a streak of six consecutive road losses in the series.

Both teams are in the middle of the packed A-10 standings and view this as a pivotal game for conference tournament positioning. George Washington holds a slight edge in overall record and home-court advantage, but Fordham arrives with confidence from its latest defensive performance.

Saturday’s contest is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. EST tip-off. George Washington visits Saint Joseph’s next on Feb. 4, while Fordham hosts VCU on Feb. 3.
