Penn at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — A pivotal Ivy League matchup awaits on Saturday as the Cornell Big Red host the Penn Quakers at Newman Arena, with both teams looking to solidify their standing in the conference race.

The Big Red (10-9 overall) enter with momentum from a dominant 87-64 victory over Princeton on Friday night. Cornell’s offense has been potent, averaging 86 points in its last three wins. Jacob Beccles has been a key facilitator, dishing 11 assists over the last two games and scoring 12 points in the win over Princeton.

Penn (9-9) seeks to rebound from a 77-60 home loss to Yale last Saturday. The Quakers have lost three of their last four, with each defeat coming by seven points or fewer. Guard AJ Levine has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists over his last four contests. He led Penn with 17 points and 7 assists in the loss to Yale.

The game features a contrast in recent trajectories. Cornell has won three of its last four, while Penn has struggled to close out tight games. The Quakers will need to contain a balanced Cornell attack that saw Jake Fiegen (17 points) and Cooper Noard (15 points) join Beccles in double figures against Princeton.

Penn’s defense, which allowed Yale to shoot 50% from the field, will be tested immediately by a confident Cornell squad playing its second home game in as many nights.

Historically, the Ivy League schedule’s back-to-back weekends increase the importance of every result. With the rematch set for just two weeks later in Philadelphia, Saturday’s contest could prove critical for postseason positioning.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at Newman Arena.
