Radford at Charleston Southern
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — Two teams riding losing streaks and searching for momentum in the Big South Conference will meet Thursday when the Radford Highlanders visit the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
Both teams enter the 7:30 p.m. EST tipoff at CSU Field House with identical 11-11 overall records. The matchup is a crucial mid-conference test for two squads looking to break recent skids and climb the league standings.
Radford (11-11) has dropped two straight, including a 93-83 home loss to High Point last Friday. The Highlanders have been led by the consistent scoring of guard Del Jones. Over his last seven games, Jones is averaging 24.3 points, including four performances of 25 points or more. He scored 23 points with four assists in the loss to High Point, supported by 19 points from Dennis Parker and 16 from Lukas Walls.
Charleston Southern (11-11) is in the midst of a more difficult stretch, having lost five consecutive games, each by 10 points or fewer. The Buccaneers fell 81-79 in overtime at Longwood last Friday, despite a heroic 30-point, nine-assist effort from guard A’lahn Sumler. Sumler has been a standout during the losing streak, averaging 25.3 points and 5.8 assists over his last six contests. He poured in a season-high 35 points in an overtime loss to USC Upstate on Jan. 14.
The game will feature a compelling backcourt duel between Jones and Sumler, two of the conference’s most dynamic scorers. Both teams have shown the ability to win close games but have recently struggled to finish in tight conference play.
Radford holds a recent series advantage, but the Buccaneers will look to leverage their home court to snap their frustrating slide. The winner will emerge with a .500 record and a needed boost before the final stretch of the conference schedule.
