NJIT at Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two America East Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Albany Great Danes host the NJIT Highlanders at SEFCU Arena.

Both teams enter the Jan. 29 matchup with sub-.500 overall records. NJIT (9-12) has shown recent flashes, winning three of its past five conference games. Albany (7-14) has split its last four league contests, including an impressive home win over Vermont on Jan. 19.

The game features a compelling backcourt matchup between two of the league’s top scorers. NJIT will lean on guard Sebastian Robinson, who is averaging 20.4 points over his last seven games. Robinson is coming off a 19-point performance in a 87-74 loss at Maryland-Baltimore County last Thursday.

Albany counters with guard Amir Lindsey, a workhorse who has logged 40 minutes in three of his last four outings. Lindsey is averaging 18.1 points and 4.9 assists over his past seven games. He scored 16 points with six rebounds in Albany’s most recent game, a 80-72 loss at New Hampshire last Saturday.

NJIT’s offense runs through Robinson, but received 17 points from Melvyn Ebonkoli in the loss to UMBC. Albany’s Miles Rose provides a secondary scoring threat, having poured in 20 points against New Hampshire.

The Great Danes will look to defend their home court, where they are 3-1 in America East play this season. The Highlanders are 2-4 in true road games.

This is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will play again at NJIT on Feb. 19.

Following this contest, Albany will host Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday. NJIT will travel to face conference leader Vermont that same day.
