Texas Christian at Baylor

Preview: TCU Looks to Sweep Season Series Against Baylor in Big 12 Clash

WACO, Texas (Interstat) — A pivotal Big 12 Conference rematch is set for Saturday at the Ferrell Center as the Baylor Bears host the Texas Christian Horned Frogs, seeking redemption after a loss in Fort Worth earlier this month.

The Horned Frogs (12-7, 2-4 Big 12) edged the Bears 69-63 on Jan. 3, a result that kickstarted a challenging stretch for both teams. TCU arrives having snapped a four-game skid with a 68-65 home win over Oklahoma State on Tuesday. Baylor (11-7, 1-5), meanwhile, has dropped five of its last six, including a 92-73 home loss to Texas Tech in its most recent outing.

TCU forward David Punch, who had 11 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in the first meeting, enters in strong form. He is coming off a 22-point performance against Oklahoma State and has scored 20 or more points in four of his last seven games. His defensive presence will be key against a Baylor squad looking to ignite its offense.

Baylor will counter with guard Cameron Carr, who scored 17 points in the January loss. Carr has been a consistent scorer, averaging 18.4 points over his last five contests. His backcourt playmaking will be crucial for a Bears team that has struggled to find consistent rhythm in conference play.

Both teams are navigating the rigors of the Big 12 schedule. TCU’s recent losses include narrow defeats at Kansas in overtime and at Utah. Baylor’s conference woes include a 22-point loss to Houston and the recent blowout by Texas Tech. The Bears’ lone Big 12 win was a 94-79 victory at Oklahoma State on Jan. 13.

The matchup features two programs desperate for a conference win to bolster their standings. TCU aims to complete the regular-season sweep and climb above .500 in league play, while Baylor hopes to defend its home court and stop its slide before a difficult road stretch.

Tipoff is scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Waco.
