Preview: Alcorn State Braves at Florida A&M Rattlers
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Florida A&M squad will look to extend its winning streak when it hosts a struggling Alcorn State team in a Southwestern Athletic Conference men’s basketball matchup on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, at the Alfred Lawson, Jr. Multipurpose Center.
The Rattlers (7-9, 4-1 SWAC) enter on a four-game conference winning streak, their most recent a 62-48 road victory at Mississippi Valley State on Monday. Guard Jaquan Sanders has been instrumental in the run, averaging 17.5 points and 4.0 assists over the last four contests. He scored 24 points in a win over Grambling on Jan. 12.
Conversely, the Braves (3-14, 2-3) have found victories scarce, though they are coming off a narrow 76-75 home win over Prairie View on Monday. Forward Omari Hamilton starred in that victory, posting 20 points and nine rebounds in 22 minutes. Hamilton is averaging 12.8 points over his last five games.
Florida A&M has shown marked improvement in SWAC play after a difficult non-conference slate that included losses to Georgia Tech, TCU and Tarleton State. Their defense has tightened during the streak, holding three of their last four opponents under 70 points.
Alcorn State’s season has been defined by offensive struggles and a challenging schedule that featured blowout losses at power conference programs like Baylor, Iowa State and Ole Miss. The Braves rank near the bottom of Division I in several scoring metrics.
The Rattlers won both meetings last season. Following this game, Florida A&M will host Jackson State on Monday, while Alcorn State travels to face Bethune-Cookman.
