Struggling America East Foes Meet as Maine Hosts Binghamton

VEAZIE, Maine (Interstat) — Two men’s basketball teams seeking to halt prolonged slides will meet Saturday when the Maine Black Bears host the Binghamton Bearcats in an America East Conference matchup.

The game at Cross Insurance Center pits programs with identical 0-5 records in league play. Maine is 4-16 overall, while Binghamton sits at 4-17.

Both teams are coming off emotionally contrasting performances. Maine snapped a six-game losing streak with a gritty 52-49 home win over Albany on Thursday. Ace Flagg led the Black Bears with 12 points and four assists, while Mekhi Gray and Logan Carey each added 13 points.

Binghamton, meanwhile, endured a heartbreaking 88-82 triple-overtime road loss at New Hampshire on Thursday. The Bearcats’ Wes Peterson scored a career-high 28 points in a staggering 54 minutes of action. Jeremiah Quigley added 14 points and eight assists, and Zyier Beverly scored 19 points.

Peterson has been a bright spot for Binghamton during its seven-game skid, averaging 16.1 points over that stretch. His consistent scoring will be vital for a Bearcats team that has lost 12 of its last 13 games.

Flagg’s production has been more variable for Maine, but the freshman was instrumental in their recent victory. The Black Bears will look to build on that defensive effort after holding Albany to 49 points.

The season series will conclude in Binghamton on Feb. 28. For now, both teams are focused on securing a rare conference win to gain momentum for the second half of the league schedule.

Maine visits Bryant on Feb. 7 after hosting Massachusetts-Lowell on Jan. 31. Binghamton’s next game is at home against Bryant on Jan. 29.

Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026.
