Army at Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to reverse midseason slides will meet Wednesday night when the Army Black Knights visit the Bucknell Bison in a Patriot League men’s basketball matchup at Sojka Pavilion.

Both squads enter with losing streaks and nearly identical records, hoping a win can spark a turnaround. Army (7-12, 1-5 Patriot) has lost five straight conference games since a league-opening win on Dec. 31. Bucknell (6-13, 3-3) looks to rebound after a 95-76 road loss to Colgate last Saturday snapped a modest two-game win streak.

The game features two of the league’s top offensive performers. Army’s hopes will lean heavily on guard Jacen Holloway, who is coming off a 21-point, 4-rebound, 4-assist effort in a 78-67 loss to American. Over his last seven games, Holloway is averaging 10.4 points and 3.1 assists.

Bucknell counters with guard Pat Curtin, who has been on a scoring tear. Curtin averages 16.4 points in Patriot League play and has scored 17 or more in three of his last four contests, including a 25-point performance in a win over Loyola Maryland on Jan. 10.

Army’s recent struggles are highlighted by defensive woes, allowing an average of 82.6 points during their five-game skid. Their last victory was an 85-78 overtime win at Lehigh on New Year’s Eve. Bucknell has shown more life in conference play, with home wins over Lafayette, Loyola Maryland and Lehigh this month.

The Black Knights will need contributions beyond Holloway. In the loss to American, Tate Laczkowski added 8 points and 7 rebounds, while Kevin McCarthy scored 12. For the Bison, support for Curtin has come from Achile Spadone and Amon Dörries, who combined for 28 points against Colgate.

Wednesday’s contest is the first of two regular-season meetings between the teams. They will meet again in West Point, New York, on Feb. 25. Following this game, Army travels to face rival Navy on Saturday, while Bucknell hits the road to play Loyola Maryland.
