HOUSTON (Interstat) — Two Southland Conference men’s basketball teams seeking to halt losing streaks will meet Saturday when the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions visit the Houston Christian Huskies at Sharp Gymnasium.
The Lions (7-11, 1-4) enter having lost five of their last six, including a 61-50 home defeat to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday. The Huskies (5-12, 1-4) are mired in a six-game skid, most recently falling 64-56 at Lamar on Monday.
Both teams will look to key guards to provide a spark. For Commerce, Noah Pagotto has been a consistent contributor, averaging 9.1 points per game in conference play. He scored 17 points in a loss at Nicholls State on Jan. 3 and logged 36 minutes in the Lions’ most recent outing.
Houston Christian relies heavily on Kylin Green, who leads the team in scoring during Southland action at 12.2 points per game. The guard has been a workhorse, playing 39 minutes and dishing four assists in the loss to Lamar.
The matchup presents a critical opportunity for both squads to gain traction in the league standings. Commerce’s lone conference win came against Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Jan. 10. Houston Christian’s sole Southland victory was an 85-76 win at New Orleans on Dec. 6.
Defense may be a determining factor. The Lions have held opponents under 70 points in three of their seven wins this season. The Huskies, meanwhile, have struggled to contain opponents, allowing 80.2 points per game during their current six-game losing streak.
Following this contest, Texas A&M-Commerce travels to face Incarnate Word on Monday. Houston Christian remains at home to host Northwestern State that same night.
Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026, in Houston.
