Preview of Miami at Clemson in ACC Showdown
GREENVILLE, S.C. (Interstat) — A high-stakes Atlantic Coast Conference clash between two top-15 men’s basketball teams will unfold Saturday when the eighth-ranked Miami Hurricanes visit the Clemson Tigers at the Bi-Lo Center.
Both teams enter with identical 15-2 records in all competitions, setting the stage for a pivotal January matchup with conference title implications. Miami (15-2, 3-0 ACC) brings a nine-game winning streak, its last loss coming against BYU on Nov. 27. Clemson (15-2, 3-0) has won seven straight since a two-point road loss to BYU on Dec. 9.
The spotlight will be on the backcourt, where Miami’s dynamic guard Tre Donaldson faces a Clemson defense ranked among the nation’s best. Donaldson is averaging 22.2 points and 6.6 assists over his last five games, including a 23-point, 5-assist performance in Tuesday’s 81-69 win at Notre Dame.
Clemson counters with forward Nick Davidson, who is coming off a career-high 25 points in a dominant 74-50 victory over Boston College on Tuesday. Davidson’s scoring surge provides a critical complement to the Tigers’ balanced attack.
Miami’s offense, averaging 86.2 points during its win streak, will be tested by a Clemson squad that has held its last three ACC opponents to an average of 60.3 points. The Hurricanes have relied on a trio of scorers, with Donaldson, Malik Reneau (17 points vs. Notre Dame) and Shelton Henderson (17 points vs. Notre Dame) leading the way.
Clemson’s resilience in close games has been a hallmark, with four of its ACC wins coming by six points or fewer. The Tigers will need that poise against a Miami team that has won its three conference games by an average of 7.7 points.
The game marks a rare meeting of ACC unbeatens this deep into the schedule. The winner will seize early control atop the conference standings.
Miami visits Syracuse on Jan. 24. Clemson hosts North Carolina State on Jan. 20.
