James Madison at Marshall
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Interstat) — A tightly contested Sun Belt Conference series resumes Saturday when the Marshall Thundering Herd hosts the James Madison Dukes at Cam Henderson Center.
The matchup comes just 10 days after Marshall (11-7, 2-3 Sun Belt) edged James Madison (9-9, 2-3) 66-64 in Harrisonburg on Jan. 7. Noah Otshudi led the Herd with 16 points in that victory, part of a strong stretch for the guard. He is coming off a career-high 30 points in Marshall’s last outing, an 85-83 home loss to Coastal Carolina on Wednesday.
James Madison seeks to split the season series and halt a two-game skid, including an 80-65 loss at Appalachian State on Thursday. The Dukes have shown resilience in close games, with a 70-69 win over Old Dominion on Jan. 10, but consistency has been elusive.
A key focus for the Dukes will be generating more offense from guard Cliff Davis. He was held to seven points in the first meeting with Marshall but exploded for 24 points in a win at Arkansas State on Jan. 3. His scoring punch will be vital against a Marshall team averaging over 78 points per game.
Marshall has struggled recently, dropping three of its last four after a five-game winning streak. Defense will be a point of emphasis after allowing 85 points to Coastal Carolina. The Herd’s backcourt duo of Otshudi and Jalen Speer, who had 24 points Wednesday, provides a potent offensive foundation.
The game is part of a pivotal stretch for both teams aiming to climb the Sun Belt standings. James Madison begins a three-game homestand after this contest, while Marshall hits the road for two games next week.
Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.
