Arizona Puts Perfect Record on Line at UCF
OVIEDO, Fla. (Interstat) — The nation’s last unbeaten team faces one of its toughest road tests of the season Saturday when Arizona visits UCF in a pivotal Big 12 men’s basketball matchup.
The Wildcats (17-0, 4-0 Big 12) have steamrolled their competition, winning by an average of 26.2 points. Their potent offense, which has topped 95 points seven times, will collide with a surging Knights squad (14-2, 3-1) that has won three straight conference games, including an 82-73 victory at Kansas State on Wednesday.
Tipoff is set for Saturday at CFE Arena.
Arizona is led by forward Tobe Awaka, who is coming off a career-high 25 points in an 89-82 win over Arizona State. Over his last seven games, Awaka is averaging 13.0 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 68% from the field. He anchors a deep frontcourt alongside five-star freshman Koa Peat, who scored 24 against the Sun Devils.
UCF counters with dynamic guard Themus Fulks, the engine of its offense. Fulks is averaging a double-double in conference play, posting 12 points and 11.3 assists per game in Big 12 action. His playmaking will be critical against Arizona’s pressure defense. In the Knights’ last outing, he recorded 13 points and 12 assists at Kansas State.
The Knights’ two losses came against then-Oklahoma State and in non-conference play. Their resume includes a home win over then-Kansas on Jan. 3, proving their capability in a packed arena.
Arizona’s schedule has been dominant but largely home-heavy. This begins a challenging stretch where five of their next seven games are on the road. How the Wildcats handle a hostile environment against a ranked-caliber opponent will be a key indicator of their championship mettle.
For UCF, a victory would represent the biggest win in program history, likely vaulting them into the AP Top 25 and establishing the Knights as a legitimate Big 12 contender in their first season in the conference.
The game features a classic contrast: Arizona’s high-powered, efficient offense versus UCF’s gritty, guard-led attack. The battle in the paint between Awaka and UCF’s Jamichael Stillwell (18 points vs. K-State), along with Fulks’ ability to break down Arizona’s perimeter defense, will likely decide the outcome.
