Loyola Chicago at Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Dayton Flyers, riding high atop the Atlantic 10 standings, will look to complete a regular-season sweep when they host the struggling Loyola Chicago Ramblers on Friday night at University of Dayton Arena.

The Flyers (13-3, 3-1 A-10) edged the Ramblers 70-68 in Chicago just two weeks ago on Jan. 3, a result emblematic of both teams’ seasons. Dayton has used a blend of defense and balance to win 13 of its first 16 games, while Loyola Chicago (5-13, 1-4) has found consistent finishes elusive, with eight of its losses coming by single digits.

Dayton’s Keonte Jones, who had seven points and five rebounds in the first meeting, is coming off a 15-point performance in a 71-65 road win at Duquesne on Tuesday. He has scored in double figures in three of the Flyers’ last four contests.

The Ramblers will lean on guard Kymany Houinsou, who is amid a strong individual stretch. He posted 15 points and six assists in a 82-74 home loss to George Mason on Tuesday and averaged 14.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists over the last four games. In the narrow loss to Dayton earlier this month, Houinsou filled the stat sheet with seven points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Loyola Chicago has lost three straight since its lone conference win over Rhode Island on Dec. 31. Dayton has won three of its last four, with the only blemish a three-point home loss to Liberty.

The Ramblers’ offense, which managed just 64 and 66 points in losses to Davidson and George Washington last week, will be tested by a Dayton defense allowing just 68.1 points per game. The Flyers have been particularly stout at home, boasting a 7-1 record at UD Arena this season.

Friday’s contest is the front end of a pivotal weekend for Dayton in the conference race, while Loyola Chicago seeks a desperately needed signature road victory to turn its season around. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
