Oregon at Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — The unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers put their perfect record on the line Tuesday night when they host the struggling Oregon Ducks in a Big Ten men’s basketball matchup at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Nebraska (16-0, 4-0 Big Ten) is one of the nation’s last remaining undefeated teams, coming off a hard-fought 83-77 road win at Indiana on Saturday. The Cornhuskers’ start is the best in program history, powered by a balanced attack and stout defense.
Guard Jamarques Lawrence has emerged as a key scorer, pouring in a season-high 27 points against the Hoosiers. Over his last five games, he is averaging 13.6 points.
They face an Oregon team (8-8, 1-3) seeking consistency. The Ducks have lost two straight, including a 72-62 home loss to Ohio State last Thursday. In that game, guard Takai Simpkins led Oregon with 12 points. Simpkins has been a bright spot, scoring in double figures in four of the last six contests.
The Ducks’ season has been marked by narrow defeats, including an 88-85 overtime loss at Rutgers on Jan. 5. Their defense travels well, however, holding Maryland to 54 points in a win on Jan. 2.
Nebraska has excelled in close conference games, edging Ohio State 72-69 and Michigan State 58-56 this month. Their resume includes nonconference wins over Creighton and a dramatic 86-85 road victory at Kansas State.
History will be against the Ducks. Nebraska holds a 5-2 all-time series lead, and the Cornhuskers are 9-0 at home this season. Oregon’s last trip to Lincoln was a 60-52 loss in 1977.
For Nebraska, the game begins a stretch of three out of four on the road. Oregon continues a brutal early Big Ten slate before returning home to face Michigan on Saturday.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST.
