Ohio at Toledo
Preview: Ohio Bobcats at Toledo Rockets
TOLEDO, Ohio (Interstat) — Two teams riding opposite waves of momentum will meet Tuesday night when the Ohio Bobcats visit the Toledo Rockets in a Mid-American Conference men’s basketball clash at Savage Arena.
Both teams enter with identical 9-7 overall records, but their recent paths diverge sharply. Ohio (2-0 MAC) has won three straight conference games, including an 86-83 victory over Massachusetts last Tuesday. Toledo (2-1 MAC), meanwhile, looks to rebound from a decisive 87-73 home loss to Miami (Ohio) last Friday that snapped a three-game winning streak.
The matchup features two of the MAC’s premier guards in Ohio’s Jackson Paveletzke and Toledo’s Sonny Wilson. Paveletzke is coming off a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists against UMass, capping a strong stretch where he averaged 17.2 points and 6.2 assists over his last five games. His playmaking will be central to Ohio’s attack.
Wilson has been a consistent force for the Rockets, scoring 20 points in the loss to Miami and averaging 18.8 points over his last five contests. His season-high 29-point outing in a road loss at Michigan State in December underscores his scoring capability.
Ohio’s recent success has been fueled by balance. Alongside Paveletzke, Javan Simmons posted 20 points against UMass, and Ajay Sheldon added 13. The Bobcats have shown resilience, winning close games at Eastern Michigan (68-67) and against Saint Bonaventure in overtime earlier this season.
Toledo will rely on Wilson and forward Sean Craig, who scored 16 against Miami. The Rockets’ high-powered offense, which hung 100 points on Lourdes, will test an Ohio team that has allowed an average of 73.4 points in conference play.
The game is a critical early conference test for both squads seeking to establish themselves in the MAC race. Toledo holds the home-court advantage at Savage Hall, where they are 6-2 this season, but must contain an Ohio backcourt that has fueled its winning streak.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST Tuesday. Toledo visits Kent State next Saturday, while Ohio travels to face Ball State next Friday.
