Marshall at Georgia State
ATLANTA (Interstat) — A surging Marshall team visits a struggling Georgia State squad in a Sun Belt Conference rematch on Saturday.
The Thundering Herd (11-5, 2-1 Sun Belt) have won five of their last six, including a 66-64 road victory at James Madison on Wednesday. They edged the Panthers 84-80 in Huntington, West Virginia, just 10 days ago on Dec. 31.
Guard Noah Otshudi has been instrumental for Marshall, averaging 16.2 points over his last six games. He scored 16 in the win at James Madison and had 22 in a loss at Troy on Dec. 20.
Georgia State (5-12, 1-3) looks to halt a two-game skid after a heartbreaking 52-50 home loss to Appalachian State on Thursday. The Panthers have lost eight of their last 10.
Guard Jelani Hamilton provides a consistent offensive spark for the Panthers, averaging 19.6 points over his last seven contests. He scored 17 in the loss to Appalachian State and had 15 in the earlier defeat at Marshall.
The Panthers will need a stronger defensive effort after allowing opponents to score 80 or more points in seven games this season. Marshall averages 77.1 points per game.
Saturday’s contest at GSU Sports Arena is the second of two regular-season meetings. The Thundering Herd continue a tough stretch of conference play, while the Panthers seek a pivotal home victory to steady their season.
After this game, Marshall hosts Coastal Carolina on Jan. 14. Georgia State travels to play Louisiana-Monroe on Jan. 17.
