Massachusetts-Lowell at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two America East men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks visit the Binghamton Bearcats at the Events Center.

Both squads are coming off narrow results in conference play on Thursday, albeit with opposite emotions. UMass Lowell (7-10, 1-1 America East) earned a 77-63 road win at Bryant, while Binghamton (4-13, 0-2) suffered a heartbreaking 59-60 loss at Vermont.

The River Hawks have shown recent signs of life, winning three of their last five games. Their offense runs through junior guard Angel Montas, who is entering the contest on a hot streak. Montas scored a season-high 27 points in the win over Bryant and has averaged 21.8 points over his last four games, including a 23-point performance in a loss at Iowa.

The Bearcats, mired in a five-game losing skid, have been competitive but unable to close. They fell by one point at Vermont despite a standout performance from junior guard Jeremiah Quigley, who logged 40 minutes with 21 points and eight assists. Quigley has been a consistent engine for Binghamton, averaging 17.3 points and 7.0 assists over his last three contests.

While UMass Lowell holds the better overall record, both teams have struggled for consistency this season. The River Hawks’ 7-10 mark includes a notable 83-71 home win over Albany on Jan. 3. Binghamton’s four wins feature a 100-60 rout of non-Division I Elmira and an overtime victory over Lehigh.

Historically, the teams split their two meetings last season, each winning on their home court. Saturday’s matchup will be the first of two this season, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 21 in Lowell.

The game will tip off at 4 p.m. EST as part of a full slate of America East action. For UMass Lowell, it’s a chance to build a winning conference record. For Binghamton, it represents an opportunity to halt its slide and secure its first league victory.
