Preview: Syracuse at Pittsburgh in ACC Men’s Basketball

PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — Two Atlantic Coast Conference teams on different trajectories will meet Saturday when the Syracuse Orange visit the Pittsburgh Panthers at Petersen Events Center.

Syracuse (9-5, 1-0 ACC) arrives with momentum from a conference road win, while Pittsburgh (7-8, 0-1) looks to rebound from a narrow home loss to open league play.

The Orange are coming off an 82-72 victory at Georgia Tech on Tuesday, powered by 27 points from forward Donnie Freeman. However, the engine of the offense is guard Naithan George. The sophomore has scored in double figures in five of his last six games, including two 22-point performances and a 17-point, 5-assist effort against the Yellow Jackets. His playmaking will be central to Syracuse’s attack.

The Panthers, meanwhile, are seeking consistency after a 73-68 loss to Clemson last Saturday. Guard Damarco Minor has been a bright spot, averaging 14.7 points over his last three contests. He led Pittsburgh with 17 points against the Tigers. Forward Roman Siulepa, who added 12 points and seven rebounds in that game, provides a key interior presence.

This matchup pits Syracuse’s more potent offense against a Pittsburgh team that has struggled at times outside of a dominant 80-46 win at Penn State on Dec. 21. The Panthers’ three losses since then have come by an average of 12.3 points.

Historically, games in this series have been tightly contested, adding stakes to this early-January conference clash. For Pittsburgh, a win would level its overall record and provide a crucial boost before a two-game road trip. For Syracuse, it represents an opportunity to build a 2-0 ACC start and solidify its standing ahead of a three-game homestand.

Tip-off is set for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, in Pittsburgh.
