Preview: Wisconsin at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Interstat) — The nation’s last unbeaten team will put its perfect record on the line Saturday when the top-ranked Michigan Wolverines host the Wisconsin Badgers in a pivotal Big Ten clash.

Michigan (14-0, 2-0 Big Ten) has dominated its schedule, winning every game by double digits until a narrow 74-72 road victory at Penn State on Tuesday. The Wolverines boast the nation’s highest-scoring offense, averaging 96.1 points per game, and have eclipsed 100 points five times. Their balanced attack is led by guard LJ Cason, who is averaging 11.2 points and has scored in double figures in four of the last five games, including 14 points in 16 minutes off the bench at Penn State.

Wisconsin (10-5, 1-1) arrives at Crisler Center seeking a signature road win to solidify its top-10 standing. The Badgers are coming off an 80-72 home win over UCLA, led by 20 points from guard Nick Boyd and 18 from forward Nolan Winter. Winter has been a consistent force, scoring 18 or more points in four of the last five contests.

The matchup pits Michigan’s explosive offense against a Wisconsin team that has shown both resilience and vulnerability. The Badgers’ losses have come against strong competition, including Purdue and Villanova, but they were also blown out on the road at Nebraska and BYU. Containing Michigan’s transition game and deep roster will be their greatest challenge.

Historically, this series has been tightly contested, but the Wolverines enter as heavy favorites, playing at home where they have won by an average of 42.7 points this season. A win would extend Michigan’s best start in program history and establish firm control in the conference race.

For Wisconsin, slowing the tempo and relying on Winter’s interior presence alongside the backcourt of Boyd and John Blackwell will be crucial. A victory would reverberate through college basketball and announce the Badgers as legitimate Big Ten title contenders.

Tipoff is set for Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026. Michigan then begins a West Coast road trip at Washington, while Wisconsin travels to face Minnesota next Tuesday.
